LEV Festival experiments with the d&b Soundscape.
The Spanish LEV Festival has been at the forefront of promoting electronic music and its relationship with the visual arts for the past thirteen years. The latest edition was held at the Matadero Madrid, a multifunctional creative space and former large-scale cattle market that lends itself perfectly to the interdisciplinary nature of this unique festival, providing a multitude of contemporary performance spaces in- and outdoors.
2019 once again saw international and local artists such as Tensal/ Komatssu, Kurokawa and Farncisco López take to the decks and create extraordinary, experimental sonic performances. The d&b Soundscape elevated the audio experience for artists and audiences to new heights, generating extremely positive feedback.
“LEV Festival has always been committed to audiovisual innovation on stage and in this regard the Soundscape system allows to take the experience one step further, both for the artists and the audience” Cristina de Silva, LEV Festival Co-Director.
Creative tool
Roberto Lorenzo, long-standing mixing engineer of the festival agrees: “It (Soundscape) has revolutionized the way artists and FoH engineers can work together. Soundscape is a leap forward in creative ability. It is a game without limits that permits you to play and have fun and gets you much closer to the artist and the creative process."
The system was designed and provided by FM Sonido. They decided on a combination of V-Series for the stage and Y-Series for the surrounds with J-SUBs delivering the low end, ensuring tonal balance and flawless implementation of Soundscape.
David Menéndez - FoH Assistant at FM Sonido, also sees the creative possibilities Soundscape generates as its greatest asset:
"Soundscape is another way to understand sound and it gives you a lot of extra technical possibilities. Now, a venue is considered a canvas where you can place your sound objects. During fine tuning, stereo results always seem limited, now you can find the right balance between different speaker sources depending on the consistency and artistic result you want in any location.”
Soundscape was certainly embraced at the 2019 LEV Festival, with the flexibility of the system allowing for a wide spectrum of uses. Creativity is set free.
